American Apple Pie Recipe

This Apple Pie is really well-known all over the world, like the famous cheese cake. You can conserve it in the fridge if there is any piece left for at least 2 days.

Pastry Dough Ingredients

300g - all-purpose flou

150g - white sugar

50ml - icing water

1/4 - teaspoon salt

Filling Ingredients

1kg - apples

100g - white sugar

1 - tablespoon all-purpose flour

1 - tablespoon cinnamon powder

1 - nutmeg, grated

1 - lemon juice + grated zest

Brushing Ingredients

1 - egg

- milk


Firstly prepare the pastry dough: in a large bowl pour in the sifted flour, salt and the butter. Mix well with a wooden spoon and then add the icing water. Continue to knead the dough with your hands, until smooth, elastic and not too crumbly. Give it the form of a ball, cover with a plastic wrap and place in the fridge to rest for at least 30 minutes. Meanwhile prepare the apple filling: peel apples and cut them into fine slices, transfer in a large bowl, add the lemon juice and the grated zest, a little salt, add cinnamon, the grated nutmeg, the sugar and 1 tablespoon sifted flour. Gently mix all the ingredients and prepare the cake pan by brushing it with a little butter and covering with baking paper. With the help of a rolling pin, roll more than half of the dough, about half cm thick and arrange to the cake pan. Cut the excess dough around the edges and then pour in the prepared apple filling. Add some small butter pieces all over the surface and lay the other dough circle, rolled before with a rolling pin. With the help of a fork teeth press carefully the pie edges creating the characteristics Apple Pie edges decorations. With the advanced dough you can form any kind of decoration ( leaves, flowers, etc ) to apply to the apple pie surface. Brush all the pie surface with some milk and with a fork form some holes in the surface. Preheat oven to 200°C. Bake apple pie at this temperature for 20 minutes. Then place the oven to 180°C, bake for 20 minutes. At the end bake for other 20 minutes at 170°C, or until the pie has a golden color. Before removing pie from oven, brush with the beaten egg, spread with some white sugar and allow to rest in the oven until you serve it.
